Hats & fascinators have long been a fashion accessory that royalty and aristocrats have been recognized for wearing. However, there is a new movement in Calgary that hopes to have "regular" people embracing the United Kingdom fad of fascinators! In the UK it is not just The Duchess of Cambridge and Fergie that wear the posh head pieces, but also "common" citizens who love fashion, and want to express themselves with their clothing. The day has come for Canadian women to do the same; after all, there was a time, several decades ago, when sophisticated hats and head pieces were a norm for women attending parties and events here in Alberta. (We're sure our grannies aren't the only elderly women that still love putting on a fabulous hat when attending an event!)
When European designer Eileen Treacy moved to Canada from Ireland, she was slightly disheartened at the lack of women wearing head accessories. In her native Ireland the majority of women adorned fascinators and hats, using them as an opportunity to showcase their class among their friends and peers. And so it has become her hope that she can share some of her Irish, and European, fashion with Canada, and more locally, Calgary.
Eileen creates handmade, stunning head pieces, ranging in size, colour, and style. The variety, and willingness to customize her pieces, makes Eileen Treacy's fascinators the perfect fit for a modern city that are virgins when it comes to head pieces. She creates giant, awe-inspiring, jaw dropping designs truly fit for a guest at a royal wedding. But she also chooses to create smaller, quieter pieces, for women wishing to embrace the posh fashion choice, but also don't yet have the confidence to wear large, loud pieces.
The fashion consultants at Cameo & Cufflinks couldn't agree more with Treacy's movement. We want the very best fashion trends to hit Calgary, and better yet, we would love Calgary to be a birthing place of a new Canadian trend. We are the perfect location in Canada to do so. The upcoming fall Packwood Derby (a horse race where all guests are required to dress as if they are attending a true British derby), the world renowned Spruce Meadows jumping, and the fabulous parties & galas during the Calgary Stampede, are all perfect events for women to showcase this "new" fashion trend.
We are proud to debut Eileen Treacy's Couture collection at our store during an exclusive trunk show this Saturday, June 20th. This is just a small coming-out party for Eileen and her designs, and we hope that in the future we can continue to grow support for this fabulous fashion trend, and the stunning designs that Eileen creates to be worn as part of the trend. Please join us on June 20th for an opportunity to meet the designer, and view her collection of head pieces. Not only does she offer her clients these opulent fascinators, but her collection also boasters stunning handmade belts, hair pieces, and bird cage veils. If you're a bride, bridesmaid, or a woman in search of a fabulous fashion headpiece for a special event, then please don't hesitate to visit our bridal boutique!
Thank you to K&E Imaging for the beautiful photographs of the fascinators!
